Crane anti-collision system.
Dimetix & Optech lasers: The laser is an excellent anti-collision measurement system between two cranes. Its accuracy is a definite asset. For dusty environments, we would use the Optech laser pulse technology. For the sampling speed (20 readings per second), it is recommended to use the Optech laser.
Pressure measurement on steam line.
Foxboro differential pressure transmitter: To read the pressure on a steam line, a transmitter with a capillary is often used. The Foxboro IDP10 differential pressure transmitter can withstand 250 degrees F directly connected to the ½ npt connection. If it is installed at a distance of 5 feet, it can withstand a temperature of 450 degrees F. This significantly reduces the cost of installation.
Measurement of lime tank level.
SOR ultrasonic: When filling a lime tank, the level is very fluid and the atmosphere very dusty. After a few days, the level becomes solid and the dust disappears. SOR’s Ultrasonic unit, with its adaptable gain, can correct these situations automatically without support from a technician as we used to see in the past with conventional ultrasounds. Its low frequency technology allows it to work in tanks that exceed 100 feet in height without any problems. This ultrasound unit is not affected by dust or steam thanks to the low frequency ranges available.
Very long distance measurement.
Optech Laser: For positioning over very long distances, encoders are replaced by an Optech laser that is much more accurate. The contactless technology eliminates the repetitive maintenance of encoders.
Obstruction detection in a pipe.
Wilcoxon vibration: The transport of chips or granules is often made by blowers in the pipes. To detect the obstruction of the pipe, we place a vibration sensor in a bend of the piping. This system is so accurate that it can detect if the blower is in operation and when the material is going through the pipe. The analog output can be configured with one or more alarms to the operator’s choice.
Wireless communication between the truck scale and the control room
Elpro wireless communication: To get information about the weight of truckloads between the scale and the control room, you had to cross a railway track. By installing an Elpro wireless communication between the truck scale and the control room, the price is reduced by several thousand dollars. Furthermore, the communication can be sent at the same time to the guardhouse. The radio allows an easy interface of the various data acquisition systems such as PLC, DCS, Ethernet or RS-232.
Mechanical protection of the water level of a steam boiler.
SOR mechanical protection: SOR manufactures high-quality mechanical floats for low and high levels that are found in applications of water level in a steam boiler. This instrument is intended as the ultimate protection in case of a power failure.
Wireless Instrumentation for recovery of biogas in landfills.
OleumTech pressure & temperature transmitters: In landfills where biogas is recovered, instruments such as pressure and temperature transmitters as well as flow meters are equipped with wireless communication. The distances between the instruments and the control room are often enormous. One can easily exceed 5 km of wiring. Wireless systems are much less expensive and generate very significant savings on installation time, especially if one has to only make a site test of the production capacity.
Overvoltage protection for computer rooms with MTL.
Cooper Crouse-Hinds: In computer rooms or control rooms, each computer or system is protected with a power bar. MTL provides a unique surge protector installed in the electrical panel which feeds the equipment. This unique installation actually costs much less and is as effective as individual protection of computers.
Gas flow measurement.
Cameron Cone meter: To measure the flow of air or gas with which it has restrictions before and after the piping, Cameron’s Cone Meter technology is the ideal solution. This is the principle of the inverted orifice plate. This system conditions the gas flow towards the walls of the piping; it does not need any length before and after to stabilize the flow. This means that this instrument could operate with a bend before and after.
