Grizzly Level measurement.
Grizzly serves to retain the ore exceeding a certain diameter with a wire netting and then crushed to fall into a tank. Reading the level of this tank is made with an Optech laser. The Optech laser has a very narrow beam that allows it to read between the wire netting of Grizzly. Its unique Optech pulsed system allows it to read through dust.

In the underground passages of ore called “Ore Passe”, the excess must be controlled. This measurement is performed with Thermo gamma level switches. The gamma system is a very long use system (20-30 years). It is very expensive and dangerous to replace these systems. That is why it is best suited and recommended for this application.

To measure the ore pulp density, Thermo’s gamma system is the most suitable system. It is installed outside of the pipe. This protects the system against abrasion, high temperatures and corrosiveness of the process. It has a very long life and the measurement is very stable.

The concentrator liquid waste is sent to the mud lake. A pH reading is essential to control releases to the environment and prevent spills. This information can also be transmitted by a Elpro wireless system because of the long distances between the mud lake and the concentrator.

The concentrator uses a lot of water. It is important to know the amount of water that is sent from a lake to the concentrator to keep from stopping this process. Foxboro’s magnetic flow meter allows reliable reading of this application, even if the pump introduces rock particles in the pumping line.

Air flow measurement for underground equipment is critical. Foxboro’s vortex is designed for this measurement. You can have the volumetric flow and, if you want, you can also convert it into mass flow using a pressure transmitter, temperature and mass calculator. The mass flow is very accurate and it is compensated for underground air temperature variants.

Underground, the ore that is extracted is accumulated in a main tank before being mounted to the surface and processed. The measurement in this tank is done with an Optech laser designed to read the level even if there is presence of dust. These tanks are generally very high. Laser technology has no difficulty with these same distances even when installed in a measuring angle.

In mines, underground ventilation is done with gigantic surface fans. When the ore is detonated to extract it, the blast of the explosion rises to the surface following the surface air supply lines. The breath can damage the blower propellers when passing. By installing a vibration sensor, it is possible to perceive the force of the explosion that goes back to the fan and thus reducing it’s speed in order to reduce vibration. Once the breath is passed, the vibration decreases and the fan can regain its initial speed without any damage.

The guard at the entry of the mine must check multiple entries simultaneously. Dimetix’s laser allows it to advise the guard of the approach of a vehicle at one of the entrances of the mine without being obliged to constantly check the monitoring screens. This improves the time of entry and reduces the traffic on the roads of the mine.
Elpro wireless communication system

Many mines have several wells to extract the ore. The construction of these wells being of different generations, the communication and interface between the wells are very difficult. The Elpro wireless communication system allows the signal to be sent between wells and also to interface them. If the first well operates with a Modbus communication or RS-232, it is very easy to interface it with Ethernet or Allen-Bradley communication to new wells. Elpro easily does this type of interface.
